Regimental Association

The Regimental Association of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (King’s, Lancashire and Border) is commonly referred to as ‘The Association’.  It embraces all members of the Regiment with the aim of promoting regimental efficiency and offering support when needed.

The detailed aims of the Association are to promote the efficiency of the Regiment by:

  • Fostering esprit de corps among serving and former members of the Regiment and enabling them to keep in touch with Regimental affairs and with one another;
  • Preserving the traditions and perpetuating the deeds of the Regiment;
  • Encouraging recruitment for the Regiment; and
  • Assisting serving and former members of the Regiment to obtain suitable employment.
  • Assisting serving or former members of the Regiment, including their dependants, who are in need by virtue of financial hardship, sickness or old age.

There is a general misunderstanding, also common amongst other regiments that the Association embraces only veterans, but in fact it is much wider. Membership comprises of 4 classes;

  1. Serving Members: all serving officers and other ranks of the Regiment, Regular and Reserve, including ACF and CCF officers who hold a Type II Reserve Commission.
  2. Veterans: all veterans of the Regiment, Regular or Reserve.
  3. Honorary Membership is automatically conferred on widows, widowers or partners of deceased serving and veteran members of the Association.
  4. Associate Membership is automatically conferred on serving and veteran officers or other ranks of the Armed Forces as follows:
    • Any former member of another corps or regiment who served as an attached member of a battalion of the Regiment.
    • The ship’s companies of ships affiliated to the Regiment, whenever such a ship is visiting a port in the North West of England.
    • Members of affiliated foreign regiments whilst temporarily in the United Kingdom.
    • Members of the North West Officer Training Regiment.
    • Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) from the Army Cadet Force ACF and Combined Cadet Force CCF contingents affiliated to the Regiment.

Only Serving or Veteran Members can vote at Association or Branch meetings (if a member of that branch).

 Note this does not include Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) from the Army Cadet Force (ACF) and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) contingents as, whilst described as non-commissioned, CFAVs are not enlisted in the Army, unlike Cadet Officers. Similarly, unless a retired CFAV has previous Regular or Reserve service they cannot be classed as a Veteran.

HOW CAN I JOIN?

Membership costs £12.50 per year for retired soldiers and £20 per year for retired officers. If you would like to join please fill out the forms below and send them to RHQ.
