In May personnel from 1 LANCS deployed on Iron Lion, a 1 LANCS Unit level Overseas Visit (OSV) to Italy that took place 2-9 May 23. The event saw 5 Members of the Battalion travel from Cyprus to Venice to conduct in-country climate adaptation and tapering ahead of racing the IRONMAN70.3 Venice-Jesolo Triathlon.
All 5 Triathletes from the 1 LANCS Triathlon club completed the 1.9km Swim, 90km Bike & 21km Run course with fantastic results.
The OSV was supported by Regimental Sustainment, BIBMTF and ASL Grants and could not have taken place without them, to which all are grateful for the opportunities that the Army has to offer its soldiers.
The OSV continued despite being very close to cancelation due to the Battalion’s commitments to the evacuation of Affected Persons to the UK from the conflict in Sudan.
Kgn Pilkington returned to Cyprus from Sudan only 28hrs ahead of traveling to Italy displaying the exact levels of commitment expected of our Service / Sports people.
