3rd Battalion the Ranger Regiment formerly 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment

3rd Battalion the Ranger Regiment

The 2nd Battalion has been redesignated the 3rd Battalion the Ranger Regiment. This milestone was marked by a parade on 1 December 2021 at Pirbright, where the Colonel of the Regiment presented the ‘new’ battalion with their new capbadge and beret. Other associated uniform changes included a new TRF and stable belt.

While the few private soldiers in the battalion will not be called Kingsman, we will nevertheless retain very close links with the battalion and we will remain the parent regiment for those from The Duke of Lancaster’s, who make up the large majority of the new battalion, and they will return to us at the end of their Ranger tour.

Based in Pirbright, Ranger soldiers and officers are mature, selected volunteers. They prioritise cultural understanding and empathy to enable them to operate successfully, increasing the Army’s contribution to countering terrorism and building stability overseas.

Ranger soldiers and instructors are trained, structured and equipped to work alongside chosen Partner Forces in high threat and austere environments.

Recent deployments include the Baltics, Poland, the Balkans and Georgia.
